In plain terms. Qwerto is free to use, provided “as is.” You’re responsible for the bindings you create and the layouts you share. Be reasonable, don’t abuse the service, and don’t upload anything harmful or that isn’t yours to share.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Qwerto desktop application, this website, and the optional online services we provide, including Community Layouts and the feedback service (together, the “Service”), operated by Formal Noise (“we”, “us”). By downloading, installing, or using Qwerto, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.
Qwerto is provided free of charge for personal and commercial use on Windows 10 and Windows 11. We grant you a non-exclusive, revocable, non-transferable license to install and use Qwerto for its intended purpose, customizing your own keyboard. You may not:
You keep ownership of the bindings, presets, and layouts you create.
You agree to use the Service lawfully and not to:
Qwerto remaps input on your own machine. You are responsible for how you configure it, including bindings that run commands or launch apps, which Qwerto always asks you to confirm before applying.
“Your content” means anything you submit to the Service, including layouts, their metadata (name, description, tags, author name), feedback, bug reports, and ideas. You are solely responsible for your content, and you represent that:
By submitting a layout to Community Layouts, you grant us and other users a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute that layout and its metadata through the Service so it can be browsed and downloaded, and you agree it may be shown publicly (including the author name you provide). You can ask us to remove a layout you submitted by contacting us.
Layouts that run commands or launch applications are labeled as such, and are downloaded and applied only with the recipient’s explicit consent. Even so, you should only get and apply layouts you trust.
We review submissions before publication and may run automated security checks on uploaded layouts. We may, at our discretion and without notice, decline, remove, or take down any content, or limit or suspend access to the Service, if we believe it violates these Terms, is harmful, or is otherwise inappropriate. You can report a published layout for review.
The online services are provided on a best-effort basis and may change, be interrupted, or be discontinued at any time. Qwerto’s core, local functionality does not depend on our servers, the app keeps working on your device even if the Community or feedback services are offline.
The Qwerto name, logo, and the software itself (excluding your content and third-party components under their own licenses) belong to Formal Noise. These Terms don’t grant you any right to our trademarks. Product names referenced by presets (e.g. Windows, macOS, Excel, OBS, Vim) belong to their respective owners; Qwerto is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any layout you download will suit your needs or be free of defects.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Formal Noise will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, including any content you download or apply. Because Qwerto is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for it (which is zero) or, where a minimum applies by law, the smallest amount permitted.
You agree to indemnify and hold Formal Noise harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your content or your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of that location, to the extent permitted by law. Nothing here removes mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have where you live.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
